Problems discussed in the writing of this scientific paper is an analysis of pollution that occurs in Balikpapan Bay and how to overcome them. The objective is to obtain information about the pollution in bay of Balikpapan which is fatal to the population of dolphins in it.
This research uses descriptive method via search, collection and review of relevant literature, the actual and factual. Data and information obtained from various print media (reports, journals, theses, and books) and electronic media (internet). Description of data include: the condition of Balikpapan Bay, the causes of marine pollution, the effects of pollution on the population of dolphins, and how to deal with marine pollution.
Based on the results of search and data collection, obtained results that the level of pollution in Balikpapan Bay is very high, considering the number of industries around the bay. Industrial wastes, oil spills, and trash are among the factors that cause pollution. After reviewing these problems, much can be done to control pollution of the sea for the sake of preserving the mermaid in bay of Aberdeen. One is not littering.
